Things are about to be soooo different….

My beautiful, sweet Kellen:

I’m writing this here because someday I plan on sharing this blog with you and your sister.  And any other children we may be blessed with having.

Your dad and I just put you down for the night.  As usual, your love and sweetness shined as you gave us both kisses and hugs and then repeatedly blew kisses while we said goodnight.  I’ve known this is coming.  I haven’t been in denial.  But it’s feeling very real right now.  Our lives are forever going to be changed within the next week or so.  Your dad and I are so excited for Raelee’s arrival.  We can’t wait to see what she looks like, to see how you interact with her, to watch her grow as an individual, and to watch you both grow together.  But I’m still sad.  I’m sad that our days of Mommy and Kellen are numbered.  I have loved every single moment of these past 21+ months.  You have helped me grow and learn as much as you have been doing it yourself.  Nothing in this world has meant more to me than you.  I am so lucky to be your mom.  These have been the best days of my life.  You are the light that shined through the darkness of loss and heartbreak.  You answered our prayers.  And now Raelee will answer our prayers again and help us to complete our family.

I’m sad that you will probably be hurting and struggling in the first few months or so after Raelee arrives, as much as an almost 2 year old can hurt.  As a mom, I never want you to hurt.  I want to protect you from all harm–emotionally and physically.  But I don’t know how to protect you from this, besides loving you and Raelee as much as humanly possible.  I know someday you will be fine.  You will be so grateful you have a sister.  I have 3 wonderful sisters, and I don’t know what I would do without them.  Raelee will be your best friend, even through fights over bathroom time, clothes and just day-to-day life.

I don’t know how to exactly put my feelings into words right now.  I just know that tears are streaming down my face…but at the same time I’m smiling listening to you read books on the monitor, when you should be in your bed sleeping.  You are amazing in every possible way.  I can’t wait to see you be a big sister.  I do and always will love you with all of my heart.

38 weeks #2

Symptoms?:  Started getting contractions a couple nights ago.  Raelee actually woke me up around 5am from moving around so much.  It hurt!  And she hasn’t moved like that in a while.  It went on for a while and I noticed menstrual type cramps coming in waves so I knew they were contractions.  So then I wondered if she was causing them from moving so much, or if she was moving because I was having contractions.

Weight gain?: Up 21lbs

Best thing that happened this week?:  Nothing too exciting.  Just another good week with Kellen 🙂

Movement:  Still quite a bit.

Any baby-related purchases this week?:  I got some honey sticks for the hospital to give me some energy when I need it.  Also got a small can of WD-40.  I remember the rocking chair squeaked sooo bad when we were there with Kellen.  And Laura just had Jacob a couple weeks ago and said they still do and they asked the nurse about it and I guess they aren’t allowed to oil them up or something.  So I’m smuggling some in and doing it myself 🙂

Nursery progress:  It’s done!  Has been 🙂

Milestones reached?:  I can’t believe we only have a couple weeks to go!

What size is the baby?:  A pumpkin

Belly picture:  A comparison since I’m wearing the same shirt.  37 weeks with Kellen and 38 weeks with Raelee.  I’m for sure bigger this time!  But I’ve gained 3 less pounds.

Full Term! #2

Symptoms?:  Same as the last few weeks–getting more painful to move around.

Weight gain?: Up 19lbs. So last week was just a weird fluke I guess. I even asked my OB’s nurse my weight gain and they actually had none for the week I thought I was up 4lbs. Weird.

Best thing that happened this week?:  Kellen and I gave John new pictures for his Father’s Day gift–he loved them 🙂

Movement:  Same–I can feel more of her limbs now though. Or possibly they are feet/hands. They are small and I’m usually just feeling her bum and back.

Any baby-related purchases this week?:  Had to get replacement batteries for the Snuza.

Nursery progress:  I got a yellow frame on clearance at Target yesterday 🙂 No set plans on what to put in it, but I’m sure I’ll find something.

Milestones reached?: 37 weeks–FULL TERM!

What size is the baby?:  A winter melon (whatever that is–she’s really the size of a watermelon!)

Belly picture:

9 months! #2

Symptoms?:  Really tired and uncomfortable. I feel much bigger and much more pregnant than I ever did with Kellen

Weight gain?: Up 22lbs total. Oops, that means I gained 4 pounds this last week…. I find that hard to believe since I have only been gaining 1 pound a week. Guess we will see what happens next week.

Best thing that happened this week?:  I’m pretty much finished with the blanket that I have been knitting for Raelee. I just need to figure out how to end it 🙂 I’m teaching myself via Youtube videos step by step.

Movement:  Pretty much the same. She stretches a lot and feels like she is trying to get out of there 🙂

Any baby-related purchases this week?:  Nope

Nursery progress:  None

Milestones reached?: 9 months!

What size is the baby?:  A honeydew

35/35!! #2

35 weeks pregnant and 35 days to go!

Symptoms?:  Pretty much the same.  I can’t wear Kellen’s birthstone ring anymore–it is tough to get off and on.  My wedding ring is still fitting, but with warmer weather coming soon, I’m not sure if I will for much longer.  I’ve noticed my stretch marks on my stomach have gotten longer on top of what I got from Kellen–Kellen’s are silvery and faded, but now I have red ones towards the top 😦  Boo.  I know I felt this way with Kellen, but I for sure don’t think I will ever wear a 2-piece bathing suit again.  Plus I have my scars from getting my gallbladder out.  ::sigh::  The things we do to have children.

Weight gain?: Up 18lbs total

Best thing that happened this week?:  I had a newborn photo shoot yesterday–my first since purchasing an online workshop.  I have for sure improved and I’m excited to do Laura’s son, Jacob when he arrives in the next week or so, and then do Raelee’s 🙂  I’ll probably do a few sessions with her for the practice.

Movement:  Still a decent amount, but more just her trying to move.  I don’t think there is much room for her to kick anymore.

Any baby-related purchases this week?:  Nope

Nursery progress:  None

Milestones reached?:  35/35

What size is the baby?:  A coconut…?  Hmm, every coconut I’ve seen is fairly small.  I’m pretty sure she is much bigger than that.

Belly picture:  I am huge!  I was looking at pictures when I was pregnant with Kellen, and I might possibly have been this big at the very end, but I wonder if I’m bigger this time completely.  It’s weird because my weight gain is the same….

Birth plan

I thought I would do a blog post that included my birth plan for future reference or for easy reference when people ask me about my birth plan.

These are pretty much the same as when I gave birth to Kellen with just a few slight changes.  I had a doula with Kellen’s labor and she helped me with the wording.  She suggested bringing a very short and to the point birth plan to the hospital and giving our OB a more detailed version ahead of time.

34 weeks #2

I forgot to post last week…oops!  We did get our maternity pictures back–here are our faves 🙂

Symptoms?: Exhausted! I thought I was tired before…yeah right. I’m still just sore pretty much everywhere now–increase in lower back pain though and feet pain. Menstrual-like cramps have started and I’m wondering if they are light contractions. Dr. B said I would feel them earlier and more often this time around.

Weight gain?: Up 17lbs total

Best thing that happened this week?:  Starting to get everything done that needs to be. Still need to install the carseats which we will probably do maybe next weekend. We are having a garage sale next month so once we go through everything in the garage I will have a good idea of where everything is. I feel like I’m missing some things that I had before–particularly bottle stuff. I can only find 1 size 1 nipple, which I know I had more of those. I’m hoping we find them in the garage, and if we don’t I guess I have to buy some :/

Movement:  Yes, but she’s pretty much staying in the same area for the most part. Her bum is under my right rib and her back is along my right side. I’m pretty sure the back of her head is in my right hip–feel hiccups pretty good right there.

Any baby-related purchases this week?:  Nope

Nursery progress:  Same–we got out the bouncer chair and jumperoo so those are both in her room for now.

Milestones reached?:  None

What size is the baby?:  A butternut squash

Belly picture: Didn’t take one today but this is last week’s

8 months! #2

Symptoms?: Same still–started getting some swelling and soreness in my feet

Weight gain?: Up 16.5lbs total

Best thing that happened this week?:  Took Kellen to Sesame Street Live–so much fun to watch her face light up with joy 🙂

Movement:  Yep…she was moving a ton last night!  It was hurting and it felt like she was doing back flips in there.  Hoping she’s still head down after all that–as of my OB appt yesterday morning she was in head down position but Dr. B said she still had lots of room to flip again so if he wasn’t sure on where she was around 36w he said he would order an ultrasound.

Any baby-related purchases this week?:  Yes :/  I bought a hat for her to wear at the hospital.  It’s a typical hospital hat but with a big bow on it.  I bought one a couple months ago for her and now I can’t find it and I really wanted her to have one, so I bought another one.  But I guess if I find the first one, I can give it to Chris and Emily because they found out their baby is a girl 🙂

Nursery progress:  Tanya made me some prints for above the changing table–the coral color is a little on the pink side so she’ll adjust it and then the room will pretty much be done.  The only thing is her bookshelf is pretty much empty…I feel like it needs something.

Milestones reached?:  8 months!!

What size is the baby?:  A squash

Kellen is in her 20s!

Months that is 🙂  Can’t believe she will be 2 in 4 months!  Wow.  I actually called and reserved the space for her birthday party since I know it fills up fast.  We will be having the party at a great pizza place in town on the Sunday after her Birthday.

I haven’t been weighing her lately so I don’t actually know her stats.  Here are her 19 and 20 month pictures.

We only have one more week of our Monday dance classes left and then there is a very long break through the summer.  But the instructor, Ms. Lindsey, owns her own studio and has a class on Mondays at 11am so Laura and I signed up for those.  They start July 15th, which is only a little over a week after my due date, but John will be off work for at least 4 weeks so he can help out with Kellen’s activities.  I plan on just wearing Raelee in the Moby or Ergo.  John and Kellen are still enjoying Gymnastics class.  It is a really good workout though!  John picked up a shift on a Friday a month or so ago so I took Kellen and it was really hard for me!  Mostly just because I am pregnant and bending over and lifting her for almost 45min non-stop is hard!  I told John I wouldn’t be able to do it anymore while pregnant.  Laura is pregnant and due 4 weeks before me and she now has her husband doing the class with Julia too 🙂  Kellen still loves swimming lessons–I’ll be bummed that we will have to take a couple months off.  I will stay signed up through the beginning of August because John should be able to take her, but after that, we will take a break.  I’m not comfortable with putting Raelee in the daycare until at the earliest 2 months old after she gets her vaccinations.  And depending on how she is doing, I might not at that point either.  Once I am, I will put her in the daycare at the YMCA and take Kellen to the classes. Once Raelee is 6 months old, I will take her to classes one day a week and Kellen the other day of the week so each of them will spend an hour or so at the daycare once a week.  I think Kellen will really enjoy it–when we walk to the locker room, we pass the daycare’s outdoor area and she always stops and points to the balls and the slide and yells out what they are.  I think she wants to play out there 🙂  Playgroup is going strong and we are all excited for the nicer weather so we can take the kids to the park to run off some steam 🙂  She loves visiting the ducks at the park–she just squeals with excitement!

Naps are now from around 2-4pm every day.  Sometimes she’ll sleep a little less and sometimes even up to 3-3.5 hours!  Bedtime has moved a little later too–she was back to waking up at 6am with her 8pm bedtime and it’s so hard for me to function with getting up that early!  So we pushed it back to a 9pm bedtime and she sleeps close to 7am.  A couple weeks ago we transitioned her to her toddler bed!  And she got her new big girl room furniture.  At first we just moved all the furniture in and put it where we wanted it.  With that, the crib/bed needed to be on the opposite wall, so we moved her crib over there and she was not a fan!  She acted scared every time we put her in it 😦  We had her crib over there for a week and then brought the toddler bed in.  It seems like with every transition we have gone through with Kellen besides weaning, she has had a really hard time with the change and it was always a week or two of hell.  So I fully expected the worst with the toddler bed transition.  Much to our surprise, Kellen has been a rock star in her bed!  One time last week she woke up about an hour after she fell asleep for the night and she was screaming and got out of the bed.  We think she had a bad dream so we went up there and calmed her down and then put her back in her bed.  Other than that, she has never left her bed once!  She sleeps great in it!  We are very proud 🙂

Her vocabulary is ever growing!  And she knows almost all of her letters now–we are working on them still and started working on numbers and colors.  She recognizes a few colors and numbers and can say a few of the numbers so far.  She is also trying to repeat almost everything I say to her and then ask her to say back to me.  She’s actually starting to communicate better what she wants or needs so it is helping me out a little too 🙂

She has started eating a little better but is still not doing very well with veggies or meat.  But it is nice that I can actually get her to eat more than a few bites per meal again.

She is really into drawing and coloring lately.  She loves to color in her coloring book, or write with chalk on her easel.  She has a couple magna doodles that she loves and we got her sidewalk chalk that she’s played with a couple times now.

With her getting closer to the age of 2, I guess tantrums naturally become part of the territory.  She’s had quite a few bad days where it seems like a non-stop tantrum.  I think she may be starting to work on her 2 year molars, but it is hard to say with them being so far back.  Yesterday she threw a couple tantrums for no real reason.  The first one she was hitting the arm of the recliner (I was sitting in it) and I was fine with the whole letting her frustrations out on inanimate objects.  But then she looked right at me and hit my arm!  I told her no and don’t hit mommy and she walked away.  Then later she was sitting with me on the recliner and wanting to climb all over me and she was basically stepping/kicking my belly and it hurt, so I was trying to get her to crawl on me in another way and she just started freaking out and then looked right at me again and hit me in the face 😦  I was very stern with her and said, “No!  You do not hit mommy!” and then sat her on the ground away from me.  She cried for a while and then climbed back into my lap.  I told her she needed to tell me sorry (she doesn’t know that word yet because we haven’t had a reason to teach it to her yet…) and to give me a hug and a kiss.  She said no and shook her head and just sat in my lap pouting.  Then a couple minutes later she snuggled up to me and said, “mama.”  She doesn’t say “I love you” yet, but I’m guessing that is what she meant 🙂  Little stinker.

So we have probably a little less than 2 months before Raelee arrives.  I think she will do pretty good with her arrival.  I had lunch with Robyn and Kristine the other day and Robyn had her 5 month old, Kinly, with her.  I held Kinly while she used the restroom and Kellen came up and was touching her feet and hands lightly and smiling and saying, “baby!”  It was very cute 🙂

31 weeks #2

Symptoms?: Pretty much the same. I started getting menstrual type cramps–especially in the evenings. Dr. B said I would feel more contractions earlier on this time around, so I’m wondering if that is what I’m feeling.

Weight gain?: Up 16lbs total

Best thing that happened this week?: The weather has been gorgeous! Kellen and I have been playing outside every day 🙂

Movement: Still a good amount–maybe a little slower than usual. I’m assuming she’s running out of room. Sometimes I think she has turned out of breach position but it’s hard to tell.

Any baby-related purchases this week?: No

Nursery progress: None

Milestones reached?: None

What size is the baby?: A pineapple

Belly picture: I actually didn’t take my own today. We had maternity/family pictures today with Bryan who was our wedding photographer. He said he should have them done in a week or so–so I will post then 🙂
